5 Charcoal BBQ Safety Tips
• For starters, no pun intended, never squirt lighter fluid on lit coals. And for sure never use gasoline on any grill.
Charcoal Lighting Tip: Hate the telltale taste of lighter fluid? Do this instead. Use alcohol. Even rubbing alcohol burns without taste or odor. And doesn't leave any distasteful aftertaste in the barbecue.

• Charcoal BBQ Safety Tip #2: While I'm not telling you not to, do be extra careful with a charcoal bbq grill on a wood deck. Then too decks often have leaves, dry grass and debris under them. So don't grill on a deck unless you absolutely have to.
• Never burn a charcoal grill inside the house, garage or camper. And due to the possibility of lingering CO, avoid storing your bbq grill with freshly used coals in the garage.
• Clean your barbecue to avoid grease buildup. Built up grease deposits do catch fire you know. And can be hard to put out. Also clean out the ashes from charcoal bbq grills frequently.

• Final BBQ Safety Tip: If you experience a flare up use the lid to kill it. Keeping a fire extinguisher handy would also be helpful.

Another Charcoal Lighting Tip: Take a coffee can. Cut out the bottom. Use a nail and pound holes around the lower inch of the can. To light your charcoal place wadded up newspaper and wood chips in the bottom. Add the briquettes on top. Light the paper, which will light the wood chips which in turn will fire up charcoal.
