Backyard barbecue grills come with those large bbq covers for a reason - to keep the heat in!

Yet excessive peeking under the lid can cost you the benefits of the lid you paid perfectly good money for.

And it's a sure sign you don't know what you're doing.

Now I suspect you're not wearing one of those aprons for outdoor grilling for your health. It's a sign you've got a clue, right? So act like it! <grin>

You see, if you're a frequent peeker, you're letting the heat escape. And escaped heat can't help cook your food.

Doh! This is decidedly NOT how to barbeque on a gas grill! Or a charcoal grill either.

Result? Longer cooking times and delayed eating. More whining. And your wife doesn't need to hear that from you!

Look. The only reason to lift the hood is to turn the food.

Yes, I know it's hard to be impatient.

Yes, I know your mouth is watering - grilling ribeye steaks and all as you are.

But resist the urge to peek. It's simply counterproductive and does nothing to enhance your cooking time and propane barbecue. Puh-leez, let the heat and smoke do their job. By staying trapped under the cover to cook and flavor the meat for you.

Do so and you'll be enjoying that good eatin' barbecue just that much sooner.
